Argentina qualify for Las Vegas 7s

Brazil may have won the title at the Women’s Sudamérica 7s in Córdoba, but it’s Argentina who have claimed the biggest prize. Despite losing 31-12 to the champions, in reaching the final Argentina’s women have qualified as the 12th team at the Las Vegas stop of the HSBC Sevens Series that kicks off on Friday, March 3. After defeating Paraguay in the Semi Finals, Argentina watched as Brazil coasted past Colombia, making the result of the final a moot point with Brazil already among the core teams on the HSBC circuit.

Argentina have a second reason to celebrate as they have also now qualified for the Core Qualifying bracket at the Hong Kong 7s in April. The winner of that tournament will be promoted to full core status for the 2017-18 HSBC Women’s Sevens Series. Also earning a ticket to Hong Kong are Colombia, who won a nerve-wracking Plate Final over Paraguay by a single score.

The Bronze Final, curiously used to determine the 5th place finisher, was won by Venezuela in comprehensive fashion over Chile. In the 7th place final Peru topped Uruguay by 24-0.
