Week 2 of the Americas Rugby Championship has impacted the Americas Rankings. While there have been no positional changes within the rankings there have been alterations in the world rankings.
Canada’s record loss at home to the USA means they fall from 64.29 points to 62.15. The lost points have gone to the USA who have risen from 64.96 to 66.76. The 1.80+ point gain brings the Eagles to within less than 1 point to the world ranking of Romania.
Canada now need a win over Uruguay to improve on their positioning. This is true both in the Americas and World Rankings’. The loss against the Eagles has seen Canada falling from 18th to 20th in the World. It sees the North Americans falling below Namibia and Russia, two sides which Canada has defeated in all previous meetings.
Uruguay are to be Canada’s next opponents. Los Teros will host the North Americans in Punta del Este on Saturday, February 25. The teams are ranked closer now than prior to the tournament. Uruguay’s 11 point win over Brazil had no impact of the ranking of either competitor. The gulf in points prevented any gain for Uruguay and any loss for Brazil.
Also unchanged this week is Chile. Despite losing by a heavy margin against the Argentina XV no impact was made to the ranking of either. With the Argentina XV not being Los Pumas no matches involving the team qualify for rankings.
Possible changes could happen to the Americas Rankings next weekend. Uruguay have home advantage against Canada in one match while Chile host the USA in another. The Argentina XV’s fixture against Brazil will not have rankings on the line but will be historic. The teams meet in the world’s southern most city of Ushuaia.
