Romania, Russia Return to Winning Ways

Having lost last weekend both Romania and Russia returned to winning ways today in Europe. Romania recovered from the shock loss to Germany while Russia rebounded from their defeat at the hands of Spain.

Romania saw off a spirited Spain, winning 13-3. The match was played in freeing conditions. The cold played into the hands of the home side who were happy to play a tight game. Such a style worked today but may not be so successful against Georgia.

The win sees Romania back on track in Rugby World Cup Qualifiers. With Georgia having pre-qualified only one spot is on the line in the 2017-2018 European Nations Cup. Germany, Russia and Spain are all out to spoil Romania’s perfect run of playing in every Rugby World Cup.

The defeat in Offenbach sent shock-waves into the Headquarters in Bucharest. Pressure can now be relieved somewhat with the ten point win over Spain. It means the Spanish missed out on a bonus point. Russia, meanwhile, scored in the final play of their match, downing Belgium 25-18.

Involved today for Spain were two players from Argentina. Fernando Martín López Pérez and Aníbal Fernando Bonan both featured. The former played at prop and the latter as a second-rower.

Georgia will host Germany on Sunday in the third and final round two match.
