Americas Rankings – February 12 2017

Week two of the 2017 Americas Rugby Championship saw no changes in the Americas Rankings. The six best teams from the Americas played in the first of five rounds with two of the three matches being capped.

In defeating Chile by more than 15 points Canada gained maximum rankings points. No change occurred to the ranking points or position or either country though. This was due to Canada’s more than 10 points advantage going into the match.

The same is true of the USA. The Eagles’ huge win over Brazil was by 48 points yet the gulf in rankings going into the match prevented changes. Had Brazil or Chile on matches then a large number of rankings points would have been lost.

Excluded from the rankings was the Argentina XV vs Uruguay. With the Argentina XV not being Argentina’s official test team rankings do not count. All teams will be able to win, lose or draw against the Argentina XV without rankings changing.

Further rankings points are to be up for grabs next weekend. All eyes will be on Canada’s home match against the USA. Both teams can rise or fall. Uruguay’s home game against Brazil is to be the team’s opportunity to end what is a notable losing streak.
