Rugby’s Development Continues in Haiti

Slowly but surely rugby is developing in the Caribbean nation of Haiti. The Haitian Rugby Federation (FEHRU) and Rugby American North (RAN) recently combined to organize high-level Rugby 7’s training  in the country.

On January 21 the FEHRU organized a training course for coaches and for several teams in the West: Lilavois, Sibert, Delmas 2, Bon-Repos, Canaan and north: Milot and Limbe. The training was facilitated by Canadian expert Nathan Abdelnour of RAN.

The development of this discipline is through training, and the mission of RAN is to promote the development of this sport in Haiti. We are pleased to see how young people are very motivated to learn the basics, “said Abdelnour.

The Canadian expert also emphasized the efforts that the FEHRU must allow the development of this discipline throughout the country. “It will be necessary that the new monitors are taken to other cities in order to advance the rugby in Haiti.”

During the training, I noticed that the Haitian players have a lot of speed and the 7 rugby requires a lot of speed. That’s why the training is based on 7-man rugby, “he added.

Haiti is also actively working in a partnership with two other countries – the Dominican Republic and Martinique. A partnership has been signed between the three countries to mutually benefit the development of all.
