Americas Rankings – February 06 2017

The opening round of the 2017 Americas Rugby Championship sees test rugby underway for the year. The six best teams from the Americas played in the first of five rounds with two of the three matches being capped.

The opening fixture in São Paulo saw the lower ranked Brazil gaining points against Chile. Brazil’s convincing win was by fourteen points. This is one point less than what was needed for Brazil to gain the maximum possible gain. It was not enough to overtake Chile but sees the gap closing. Brazil is up from 50.67 to 51.81 points. On the flip side Chile has fallen from 55.08 to 53.94 points.

In North America the USA’s comeback victory over Uruguay sees rankings movement. The updated rankings see the USA rising from 64.66 points to 64.96. Uruguay is down from 60.66 to 60.36 points. Neither side changes overall positions. They remain second and fourth in the Americas.

Excluded from the rankings was Canada vs Argentina XV. With the Argentina XV not being Argentina’s official test team rankings do not count. All teams will be able to win, lose or draw against the Argentina XV without rankings changing.

Further rankings points are to be up for grabs next weekend. Canada and the USA will be at home, hosting Chile and Brazil respectively. Uruguay travel back to South America to face the Argentina XV in Bahía Blanca.
