Cubelli Out for Four Months, To Undergo Surgery

Tomás Cubelli has been ruled out of rugby for four or five months. The Argentine scrum-half was injured playing in a Super Rugby Warm-up on Saturday. The Pumas scrum half started for the Brumbies against the Waratahs. He was forced to leave the field with a problem in his knee.

Having undergone tests to analysis his injury it has been confirmed that he requires surgery. Exams confirm that the Belgrano Athletic no 9 suffered a detached tendon to his left knee. His recuperation will take between 4 and 5 months. He will be operated in Sydney before returning to Buenos Aires to be with his family.

The Brumbies did not have the best of warm-ups. They were cleanly beat, 53-17, by the Waratahs on Saturday. The Brumbies are to open their campaign against New Zealand powerhouses the Crusaders on February 25. Cubelli’s availability will be determined over the coming days.

Injury to Cubelli comes just weeks after Martín Landajo broke his leg in training. Landajo is set to miss the start of the season for Los Jaguares. The two players are the only players to have been used by Daniel Hourcade for Los Pumas. Hourcade took over from Santiago Phelan in October 2013.
