Jaguares Comfortably Defeat Argentina XV

Los Jaguares comfortably defeated the Argentina XV, running out 68-14 winners in Buenos Aires. The fixture was the second of two warm-up matches for Argentina’s Super Rugby franchise ahead of their second campaign.

Due to it being a pre-season fixture during at the hottest time of the year the fixture was played under special rules. Three 30 minute periods were used for the match. Los Jaguares won all of them -leading 21-7 after the first and 47-7 after the second.

Both Raúl Pérez and Felipe Contepomi were able to study their players in detail. The leading point scorer of the match was newcomer Joaquín Díaz Bonilla. He played more of the match than first choice fly half, Nicolás Sánchez. Díaz Bonilla scored two tries and kicked five goals.

In total eight Jaguares scored tries compared to two members of the Argentina XV. Involved in the Argentina were Jaguares players Juan Cruz Guillemaín and Santiago Alvarez Fourcade.

Not involved in the match was Facundo Isa. Having also missed out on facing Uruguay on Monday his non-involvement is due to his decision to leave Argentina to play in France. The UAR have taken the action to block him from training until an official contract has been finalized.

The UAR’s stance remains firm – to be in consideration for Pumas selection one must play Super Rugby. President Carlos Araujo confirmed that Northampton winger Juan Pablo Estelles is now not being considered. Edinburgh prop Felipe Arregui is due to return from Scotland to Los Jaguares.
