Pumas Prop Training at Hooker for Jaguares

A Pumas loosehead prop was spotted training at hooker for Los Jaguares on Wednesday. Having also done so last week Roberto Tejerizo is now indeed being trialed out of position.

Aged 28 the Tejerizo has earned four caps for Argentina. He started twice against both Chile and Uruguay, doing so in 2011 and 2012. The Tucumán front-rower has also made almost 30 appearances for the Argentina XV and Los Jaguares from 2010-2015.

Tejerizo remains outside of the top three options for his country. In 2016 Daniel Hourcade used Nahuel Tetaz Chaparro out of position at loosehead prop. This was in addition to Lucas Noguera Paz and Santiago García Botta. Also preferred was Felipe Arregui who will soon return to Argentina from Edinburgh. Facundo Gigena joins then as a specialist loosehead option.

The hooker position carries little in depth. Captain Agustín Creevy is one of just two players. The other is his deputy at test level, Julián Montoya. Facundo Bosch was to be the third choice hooker for Los Jaguares but has instead opted to move to France to play for Agen.

Gaspar Baldunciel, Marcelo Brandi, and Axel Zapata are training for the Americas Rugby Championship. A call-up from the Argentina XV to Los Jaguares is expected. In the meantime Tejerizo may offer a solution. His training at hooker has included scrums.
