Tennessee flier Tommy Seymour has been named on Scotland Roster for the Six Nations. The 28-year-old is one of 37 players selected by Head Coach Vern Cotter for Europe’s elite annual competition.
Having qualified to play for Scotland via his mother, Seymour has earned 13 caps since hins debut in 2013. He has been playing his rugby in Scotland since 2011. He joined the Glasgow Warriors from Guinness Pro 12 rivals Ulster that year.
Currently ranked 7th in the World Rankings, Scotland is in need of a strong campaign to avoid falling below 8th. As it stands Scotland sits in band 2 of the 3 set to be used to seed teams for the Rugby World Cup 2019 draw. Scotland holds a narrow advatage over both France and Argentina.
In an effort to avoid falling Cotter has named his strongest possible roster. This includes two debutants, neither of whom are from Scotland. New Zealander Simon Berghan qualifies via his grandfather and Cornell Du Preez does so via the three-year eligibility ruling. Du Preez played for his native South Africa at the 2011 World Rugby Junior World Championship.
Seymour will compete with Damien Hoyland, Sean Maitland and Tim Visser for a starting position on the wing. Both Maitland and Visser are also foreign-born. In total 19 of Scotland’s roster are foreign-born.
