Cedaro set to leave La Rochelle

Argentine second row Leandro Cedaro will be moving from La Rochelle to Agen next season according to the French press. The 28-year-old is originally from the Regatas club in Resistencia but qualifies for Italy through ancestry and won a single cap for the Azzurri against Scotland in 2013. Despite showing good form and playing consistently in the Top 14 for the past three seasons he has since been overlooked by the Italian selectors.

Cedaro will replace giant French lock William Demotte, who ironically will move in the opposite direction to join La Rochelle next season. Demotte won his first cap for France in June against Argentina. Agen will be Cedaro’s fourth club in France. After spending one season with Vannes in Fédérale 1 during the 2009-10 season he played with Mont-de-Marsan in the Pro D2 before signing for La Rochelle in 2012. Now in his fifth season for the Rochelais, he has made 125 appearances for the club across all competitions.

Whether he stays in the Top 14 or returns to the Pro D2 next season is still to be determined. With 45 league points Agen are tied with Oyonnax for the lead at the midpoint of the season. Only the team that finishes first will win automatic promotion to the Top 14. The second-place finishers are instead entered in a two-round elimination playoffs to decide the second team to make the move up and take part in European competition.
