Ciaran Hearn will be sticking around at London Irish for at least two more years. The Canadian centre’s extension was today announced, just a day before his 31st birthday. Hearn joined country-mate Jebb Sinclair at Irish following his impressive showing at the 2015 World Cup in England. His new deal will take him through the end of the 2018-19 season.
Irish remain undefeated in the 2016-17 season and sit at the top of the Greene King IPA Championship table, with an immediate return to the Aviva Premiership in 2017 looking ever likely. Despite suffering relegation last season, the club has managed to retain key players such as former All Blacks prop Ben Franks and Scotland flanker Blair Cowan. A change in coaching setup and the addition of Hurricanes flyhalf James Marshall in the off-season has turned around their fortunes and they look set to return to the top flight with a competitive squad next season.
After being largely considered first choice in the midfield during his first year with the club, Hearn’s second season started slowly after an Achilles problem sidelined him for several weeks. Now fully recovered he has most recently been seen on the wing, a position he has started in 11 times out of his 53 Canadian caps to date.
