Juan Pablo Estelles enjoyed a strong outing with the Northampton Wanderers as they defeated a Leicester Development XV by 20-11 in their Aviva ‘A’ League fixture on Monday. The Argentine dual-international scored two tries to lead the way for the Wanderers. Whether his fine form will earn him an opportunity in the Saints’ first team is yet to be seen, though his substitution in the 50th minute suggests he may be in considering for Northampton’s Premiership match against Sale Sharks on Friday evening.
Estelles was recalled from Rotherham this week after being loaned to Titans for their British & Irish Cup match against Munster ‘A’, where he also scored a try. His contract appears to have been extended somewhat following his initial three-month trial deal that was due to expire in mid-November.
Also in action during the game was new addition Jake Ilnicki, whose signing was only confirmed by the club earlier in the day. The Canadian prop got his first taste of European club rugby having previously played professionally in Australia, New Zealand, and the USA. Ilnicki reportedly performed well and was given a solid run of more than 70 minutes against an experienced Leicester front row that included full-time pros Riccardo Brugnara and Harry Thacker.
