Argentina to face USA in Patagonia

Argentina is to face the USA in Patagonia, Americas Rugby News has learned. The 2017 Americas Rugby Championship fixture will be played in the Southern Argentine city of Comodoro Rivadavia in Chubut province.

The fixture will be a final round match in the second annual Americas Rugby Championship. The Argentina XV will host the match on March 04, one week following their home match against Brazil in Ushuaia.

The Argentina XV will also play at home against Uruguay. The round two fixture will be played in Bahía Blanca on February 11. Combined with Brazil and the USA both playing in southern Argentina all three home fixtures will see the Argentina XV playing south of Buenos Aires.

Pumas Tight Head prop Ramiro Herrera is from Comodoro Rivadavia. The city has never hosted international rugby but Puerto Madryn, also of Chubut, hosted Argentina vs Wales in 2006.

With a population approaching 200,000 Comodoro Rivadavia is the largest city in Chubut. The city had been planned to host Argentina vs Italy in June 2016. The fixture instead took place in Santa Fé. The Comodoro Rivadavia venue was to be the Estadio Municipal. Pictured below it has a capacity of 8,300.
