Taufete’e signs for Worcester Warriors

Worcester Warriors have announced their second Americas signing in a matter of days. With Canadian flyhalf Connor Braid already on the books, US Eagles front row Joe Taufete’e joins the Aviva Premiership club with immediate effect with his contract running until the end of the 2016-17 season. The 24-year-old appeared at both prop and hooker during the November Internationals but is expected to be used primarily as a hooker for Warriors.

‘Big Joe’ was a surprise inclusion for the 2015 World Cup and did not make his international debut until the match against South Africa on October 9. He has since won nine caps for his country and recently captained the USA Select XV side during the Americas Pacific Challenge. Originally from the Belmont Shore club in Long Beach, California, this is his first European contract, having begun his professional career with the San Diego Breakers in the inaugural 2016 PRO Rugby season.

Taufete’e joins a growing number of Eagles playing professionally abroad. Fellow PRO Rugby exports Langi Haupeakui and David Tameilau are in France and Scotland respectively, while in the Premiership he will find familiar faces in Newcastle Falcons lock Nick Civetta, Bristol center Thretton Palamo, Sale Sharks flyhalf AJ MacGinty, and the Saracens pair of Titi Lamositele and Chris Wyles.
