Tameilau targeted by Top 14 clubs

It hasn’t taken long for David Tameilau to make his mark on French rugby, and if reports out of the French media are correct his stay in the Pro D2 might not be long either. After joining Narbonne in October as a medical joker for the injured David Penalva, Tameilau has made five appearances for the club including three consecutive starts at no8. Such has been his impact that he is now reportedly being eyed by several Top 14 clubs who are intent on hiring the 26-year-old once Penalva returns in the coming weeks.

If Tameilau were to be snapped up by a top division club it would represent a remarkable turnaround in form for the 1.95m (6’5″) forward. After showing huge promise during the 2016 Americas Rugby Championship his fitness dropped off and he was subsequently dropped from the Eagles by John Mitchell after some disappointing performances in PRO Rugby.

Things went from bad to worse when a proposed deal with Newcastle Falcons was taken off the table but Tameilau was offered a reprieve by Narbonne. A top 14 contract and continued from could see him recalled to the Eagles roster for the June internationals.
