Americas Rankings – Final Positions for 2016

With the completion of the South American C Championship international competition has concluded for 2016. The final weekend of international competition saw Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua and Panama all taking to the field in Guatemala City.

Panama’s historic first-ever victory over El Salvador sees one side rising and the other falling. Panama has shot up to 25th in the Americas. 39-19. For El Salvador finishing bottom with three losses transpires into an end of year ranking of bottom of the Americas.

In securing back-to-back titles Guatemala has risen significantly. Guatemala has improved its ranking from 30.46 points to 31.26. This sees the country overtaking Ecuador, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic.

Los Jaguares’ 24-16 win over Costa Rica has been Costa Rica suffering as a result. The country’s new ranking of 30.70 is a notable fall from 31.50 before the match. As a result Costa Rica has dropped below Turks & Caicos, Guatemala and the Dominican Republic.

Nicaragua’s big win over over Guatemala’s u23 side has no impact on the rankings. Only matches involving the senior sides of two countries involves rankings.

International competition in the Americas will recommence in February. The Top Six from the Americas will compete in the second annual Americas Rugby Championship.
