Ohio Aviators To Get New Venue

The Ohio Aviators are to get a new home. The PRO Rugby side is to benefit from the building of a public funded 6,500-seat stadium. It is to be constructed on the site of the former Columbus Motor Speedway. To be called Fortress Field, it will be open for an Ohio Machine lacrosse match on May 6. The field will be part of a larger sporting complex that will include an 18,000 square foto office building as well as concession stands, a video board, parking, and other modern amenities.

Ohio’s first home game during the inaugural 2016 PRO Rugby season was played on May 1 at a temporary location of Memorial Park. With pre-season training tentatively scheduled to begin in mid-February, a May 6 launch for the new stadium may require some adjusting of the schedule to allow the Aviators to open their season as their new home.
