Guatemala Hammer El Salvador to Reach Final

Guatemala hammered El Salvador to reach the 2017 South American C Championship Final. Playing at home Los Jaguares underlined their progress in recent years by defeating Los Torogoces 53-0.

Guatemala was the better team for the duration. The home side scored three first half tries to lead 19-0. In the second half the Guatemalans continued to pressure El Salvador and the defense gave way for further tries. Dustin Cacinos and Diego Orellana both had fine matches, each scoring two tries. Helmut Flores also impressed both in general play at as the team’s goal kicker.

The result sees Guatemala advancing to face Costa Rica in the Final. It will be played on Saturday. On the line for the winner is not only the South American C Championship title but also repechage. Ecuador will play the winner in 2017 to determine who joins Colombia, Peru and Venezuela in the 2017 South American B Championship.
