Perry Baker to captain Eagles in Cape Town

Perry Baker will captain the USA Eagles 7s team in Cape Town this weekend. Regular skipper Madison Hughes will sit out the tournament to begin a two-month recovery and conditioning program with the coaching staff wary of an excessive workload over the 2016 calendar year. This will be the first time Baker has captained the side and the first time Hughes will miss a tournament since being named captain at the beginning of the 2014-15 HSBC Sevens Series.

Replacing Hughes in the 12-man roster is Davenport loose forward Anthony Welmers. The 24-year-old Michigan native makes his first appearance in the HSBC circuit having been an unused 13th man in Dubai. Options to fill the playmaker role vacated by Hughes are Stephen Tomasin and newcomer Don Pati.

The USA have been drawn in Pool A for Cape Town along with Australia, Russia, and hosts South Africa.
