Tough draw for Americas teams at Cape Town 7s

Americas teams have their work cut out for them as they look to turn around their HSBC Sevens Series fortunes in Cape Town this weekend. Canada and Argentina are again paired in and this time find themselves in a stacked Pool C with England and New Zealand. It’s a nightmare scenario for the two Americas sides and comes as a result of 13th and 11th place finishes in Dubai. Canada will feel particularly unlucky to be stuck with three consistent Cup contenders.

Meanwhile the USA’s path to the knock-out stages will be blocked by Dubai champions South Africa and the always dangerous Australia in Pool A. They do have one less threatening opponent in Russia alongside, but with captain and star playmaker Madison Hughes set to skip the tournament even the lowly Russians are a potential banana peel.

Pool B pits Olympic champions Fiji against France, Kenya, and Japan. Wales head up a wide open Pool D with Scotland, Samoa, and Uganda all vying for a spot in the Cup quarter finals.

The Cape Town tournament kicks off on Saturday, December 10.

All matches will be streamed live by World Rugby.
