Uruguay XV Win Promotion in Campeonato Argentino

The Uruguay XV defeated Alto Valle this afternoon to win promotion in the Campeonato Argentino. The 31-27 victory sees Uruguay’s ‘A’ side rising from the third to the second division of Argentina’s provincial championship. In 2017 the Uruguay XV will play in the ‘Ascenso A’ division.

The match was eagerly contested, going down to the wire. In the opening half the Uruguay XV outscored Alto Valle 18-15. Fullbacks Martín Secco and Diego Codon both kicked points with Codon landing five first half penalties. The Uruguay XV managed two tries in the opening half with Agustín Alonso and Matías Plá scoring.

In the second half Secco extended the Uruguay XV’s advantage. The Argentine provincial side hit back through Facundo Maina and Facundo Nogueira. Their tries set up a thrilling finish. The Uruguay XV, though ultimately snuck home with No 8 Martín Diana scoring the match winning try.
