Pieretto Suspended for Seven Weeks

Argentine Tight Head prop Enrique Pieretto has been suspended for seven weeks by World Rugby. The 21-year-old from Córdoba was red carded for stomping on England’s Joe Marler on Saturday.

The incident required the player to appear before a Disciplinary Committee. Taking place earlier today, Pieretto pleaded guilty to foul play but arguing that it had not merited a red card.

The Disciplinary Committee of Sheriff Kathrine Mackie (Scotland), Neil Hennessy (Wales) and Graham Quinn (Ireland) determined that Pieretto had committed foul play and that it had merited a red card.

The Disciplinary Committee determined that Pieretto had intentionally committed an act of foul play and based on World Rugby’s scale of seriousness they handed him a nine-week playing suspension. The suspension was reduced by two weeks due to there having been mitigating factors. As such the suspension was reduced by two weeks to seven in total.

He will be free again to play on March 20 2017. This will rule him out of potential involvement in the Americas Rugby Championship which finishes on March 04. He will be free to join Los Jaguares for round 05. The Argentine Super Rugby team will play host to the Reds on March 25.
