Video: Samoa vs Canada 2016

Samoa and Canada faced-off in Grenoble, France on Friday evening. The neutral venue was treated to a thrilling match which went down to the wire. Samoa entered as favorites and were able to edge out there North Americans, winning 25-23.

Samoa’s win had a lot to do with a stand-out performance from D’Angelo Leuila. The 19-year-old New Zealander kicked 18 points for Samoa. Indeed, of the game’s four tries it was Canada who scored three of them.

Leuila’s accurate goal kicking proved decisive. Canada’s problems in this area left the North Americans thinking about how to improve to win future matches.

Captaining Canada for the second time was winger DTH van der Merwe. The star of the Guinness Pro 12 ran in two tries. In doing so he is now just one try away from the all-time Canadian record of 24 tries. That record was set by Winston Stanley, also a winger.
