Video: England vs Argentina 2016 Red Cards

This afternoon’s match between England and Argentina saw a place from either side sent off. In the first half English winger Elliot Daly saw red while in the second half replacement Puma Enrique Pieretto did. Both players are to now face disciplinary hearings and will possibly be suspended.

Daly’s sending off occurred early on in the match. In just the 4th minute the Wasps back’s afternoon was ended. Usually an outside center, Daly was selected to play on the left wing. His inexperience was revealed when he went early to tackle Leonardo Senatore in the air.

The Pumas No 8 was tackled while in mid-air and fellow down, dangerously onto his neck and head. Referee Pascal Gauzere waited for Senatore to be attended to before viewing the replay. Upon doing so he concluded that the English player had his eye on the player not the ball and had therefore directly contributed to his fall. The manner in which he landed meant Daly was red carded.

Late in the second half England had a comfortable lead. But with Argentina needing a win to improve their World Ranking the South Americans pushed hard until the end. This saw multiple yellow cards and one red card.

The player to see red did so for foul play. It was replacement Tight Head prop Enrique Pieretto. One of the players to have come on in leaps-and-bounds this year has earned praise for his impressive skills, notably his scrumming.

With six minutes remaining Pieretto was red carded for stomping on Joe Marler. The English prop had held Pieretto on the floor. Puerto took offense. He responded by stomping on Marler’s face. The incident was sent to the TMO. Gauzere determined that a stomp had taken place as TV replays showed him looking at Marler while stomping.

The deliberate act of foul play from Pieretto saw him send off. He is now going to need to respond to the judiciary. Due to the nature of his offense he may he now see a lengthily ban. His place in the Jaguares’ Super Rugby roster may now be placed on hold.
