Los Pumas are facing an historic November Tour whitewash in Europe. Never before haveLos Pumas lost all November Internationals in Europe in an end-of-year tour.
Known in Europe as the Autumn Internationals, the month of November has been used every year since Rugby World Cup 1999. Each and every year Argentina has been involved. Aside from 2000 the South Americans have been on tours, playing multiple test matches.
In 2000 Los Pumas’ one match was against England at Twickenham. Argentina lost 19-0. In all subsequent years Argentina has played multiple matches. From 2001-2005 they played two each year. This increased to three in 2006. This year Argentina is again playing three with a fourth match having preceded the tour. That match was against Japan in Tokyo.
In order for the current tour to not go down in history as Argentina’s worst on record a win is required this weekend. Argentina will play away to the world’s number 2 side, England. For Los Pumas a win is nothing short of mandatory. Currently ranked 9th in the world Argentina faces a Pool of Death unless it can rise to 8th or higher this weekend.
No November Internationals took place during Rugby World Cup years.
