Uruguay Make Wholesale Changes for Spain

Coming off a shock loss to Germany Uruguay have made wholesale changes for Saturday’s match against Spain. Head Coach Esteban Meneses has wielded the ax with ten changes having been made for Spain.

In the front-row Loose Head prop Mateo Sanguinetti has been retained. He will be joined by Carlos Arboleya and Mario Sagario who come in for Facundo Gattás and Juan Echeverría.

Flanker come second-rower Diego Magno will start again. His partner though will be different. The tall-timber of Ignacio Dotti from Los Cuervos has been preferred to Diego Ayala.

Back to captain Los Teros from flanker will be Juan Manuel Gaminara. He is one of two changes to the back-row. The other sees Franco Lamanna selected out of position. The Italian-based second-rower will start at opened flanker. Gonzalo Soto has been retained at No 8.

The vision and skill-set of Agustín Ormaechea will be called-upon throughout the match. He is back from club duty in France to start at scrum half. Ormaechea will not join Felipe Berchesi in the halves. Instead Jerónimo Etcheverry makes the move to the pivotal position. He does so having started at outside center against Germany.

Etcheverry’s place at outside center has gone to Carrasco Polo’s Santiago Gilbernau. He will form a mid-field partnership with Nicolás Freitas.

In the back-three Manuel Blengio has been dropped from fullback to the bench. This allows for Rodrigo Silva to move from the right wing to fullback. Silva played well against Germany, scoring two tries. Under 20’s flier Santiago Arata will get an opportunity on the right wing while Andrés Rocco has been retained on the left.
