Brazil confirm team to face Germany

Brazil head coach Rodolfo Ambrosio has named a lineup with a few surprises for the first of two matches against Germany. Nick Smith is named captain despite the unexpected inclusion of incumbet skipper João Luiz da Ros on the flank. da Ros was not part of the original touring group named earlier in the week.

Other interesting selections have loose forward Gabriel Paganini selected at lock and Guilherme Coghetto to start at flyhalf having won all of his 15 test caps thus far at wing or fullback. Mateus Estrela is moved from the midfield to the wing, and there is one new cap among the reserves in Joabe Sousa, one of two flankers on the bench beside Matheus Daniel who is recalled more than a year after his last test.

The teams have met on two previous occasions, with Germany coming away with comfortable victories in each. A 31-7 result at Pacaembu in December 2015 was the their most recent encounter. This will be Brazil’s first trip to Germany.

A live stream has yet to be confirmed.
