Sánchez Joins 50-Cap Club

On Saturday afternoon Nicolás Sánchez will become the 28th Puma to reach 50 caps. The Tucumán fly half will reach the milestone playing against Scotland in Edinburgh.

In earning his 50th cap Sánchez will draw level with Mauricio Reggiardo. Of the remaining 26 players with more caps than Sánchez seven are still playing rugby.

The highest capped active player is Juan Manuel Leguizamón. Should he win further caps against England and in 2017 it is all but certain that he will overtake Pedro Sporleder. If so Leguizamón would reach the Top 5 Pumas, in terms of appearances, of all time.

Both Juan Martín Hernández and Martín Landajo are closing in on the Top 10. They will draw level with Marcos Ayerza should they face England next weekend. Both have the Top 5 within reach and could also reach the mark in 2017.

Hugo Porta was the first Argentine player to reach 50 caps. Having made his debut against Chile in Montevideo on October 10 1971, he reached the milestone on September 17 1985. His 50th test came against Uruguay in Asunción, Paraguay. It took the legendary Porta a staggering 14 years to reach his half-century, while Tomás Cubelli has achieved it in 6. He debuted against Uruguay in May 2010.
