Americas Rankings – November 13 2016

Following the completion of international competition this weekend there have been changes to the Americas Rankings.

Argentina retains top spot in the Americas but is to drop in World Rankings. Needing to be ranked 8th or higher at the end of this month Los Pumas now go into their match with Scotland knowing they cannot lose. Their 24-20 loss against Wales on Saturday sees them falling from 81.46 to 80.71 points. Wales’ gain places them back above Argentina who are now 8th.

The USA entered the weekend ranked second in the Americas. With 65.60 points this made them 17th in the world. Their opposition, Romania were 16th with 68.74. Following their loss in Bucharest the USA has narrowly fallen and Romanian slightly risen. Neither side change position.

The USA remains second in the Americas, one spot above Canada. The gulf in ranking points between Canada and Ireland meant that there was in change to either country. Had Ireland held on to complete a draw then Canada would have risen to overtake the USA.

The fourth placed side in the Americas, Uruguay suffered a shock defeat at the hands of Germany. The Central Europeans triumph is bad news for Uruguay who fall behind Namibia to now be 20th in the world. In the Americas they retain fourth spot.

The one team from the Americas who came away with a win was Chile. Sunday’s 30-12 victory over South Korea sees Chile coming away with maximum points. Los Cóndores have improved their ranking from 55.73 to 56.65 points. It is not enough to reach Uruguay in the Americas or improve in the World Rankings but is, nonetheless, a notable gain.

Brazil will join the aforementioned five countries from the Americas in playing next weekend. They face Germany. Argentina, Canada, Uruguay and the USA are all again playing away matches. Chile host South Korea in game two. Also playing will be Paraguay and Colombia who meet in a Rugby World Cup Qualifier in Asunción.
