Ireland call youngsters for Canada

Ireland have added six players to their training squad in the wake of their historic win over the All Blacks in Chicago. Nine players are in line to make their debut on Saturday with mass changes expected for the side to play Canada in Dublin. The only player to drop out is injured Jordi Murphy, who suffered an ACL injury at Soldier Field and is now due to spend the next six to nine months on the sidelines.

Uncapped loose forwards Dan Leavy and Jack O’Donoghue are joined by wingers Niyi Adeolokun and Darren Sweetnam in the 39-strong training squad. Also recalled to the group are Munster prop David Kilcoyne and Connacht fullback Tiernan O’Halloran, both of whom were part of the South Africa tour in June. All seven players who were excluded from the trip to Chicago have also re-joined the team, with John Ryan, James Tracy, Billy Holland, and Canadian-born Luke McGrath are all set to win their first caps on Saturday, so too Garry Ringrose who was on the bench in Chicago but did not see game time.

The match day squad is expected to be named on Thursday.
