Patricio Fernández has extended his Clermont Contract Until 2020. The Argentine fly half has agreed to terms to extend his stay by a further three years. The deal will see him missing out on Rugby World Cup 2019 and all international duty until 2020.
The 22-year-old Fernández has ben capped two times by Argentina. He played against Chile and Brazil in the 2013 South American Championship. He missed out on playing June / November Internationals based on his age. The same reasning saw Daniel Hourcade opt for Santiago González Iglesias and Juan Pablo Socino for last year’s World Cup.
Many have since pointed out Fernández as a must-have player for Los Pumas in the road to Japan 2019. He had been due to return home well over a year prior to the tournament but is now locked into a deal that will see him remaining in Central France.
Fernández joined Clermont in 2015 as back-up to Brock James and Camille Lopez. James has since moved to La Rochelle. This season Fernández and Lopez have been rotated as Clermont’s starting fly half. Last month Fernández scored 30 points in a superb performance.
