Curitiba Claim Brazilian Title in Thrilling Final

Curitiba claimed the Brazilian title by winning a thrilling final in São Paulo today. The Paraná state club toppled Desterro in an all-Southern Brazil final, winning the title from a penalty shoot-out.

In regulation time the Super 8 Final was a draw. Having competed to 13-13 the teams entered extra time. Played over two halves neither side was able to add to the scoring. This meant the champion would be determined via kicking.

Ultimately the winner would be Curitiba who won by two goals to one. This gave the Paraná club a second national title in three years. Their opposition from Santa Catarina state finish second in the most remarkable of manners.

Both clubs have produced a host of Brazilian test players over the years. Brazil’s upcoming three-match tour of Germany ands Portugal is certain to include athletes from both Curitiba and Desterro.
