Ireland to play USA in June 2017

Ireland will play the US Eagles on the first weekend of the 2017 June test window. The match is set to be played in New York at a venue still to be determined. Ireland will not be making a stop in neighboring Canada on their trip, instead moving on to Japan where they will play two tests. The trip will coincide with the beginning of the British & Irish Lions tour to New Zealand that several leading Irish players are expected to participate in, with the remainder available to Joe Schmidt and located in relative proximity to the Lions should they be on standby.

While currently in Chicago for an historic neutral-ground test against the All Blacks, Ireland last played the Eagles at Houston’s BBVA Compass Stadium in June 2013, winning narrowly 15-12. That match also came during a Lions tour year. It was the lowest margin of victory over a USA side, with Ireland winning all eight of their tests since their first meeting in November 1994.
