Uruguay XV Open with a win in Campeonato Argentino

The Uruguay XV opened their Campeonato Argentino campaign with a win on Saturday. Playing at home against Argentine province San Juan the Uruguayan’s completed a 43-29 victory.

Coaches Oscar Duran and Joaquín Pastore saw their players win a hard-fought contest. The score had been 23-20 at half time and a strong performance from San Juan saw the Uruguay XV trailing in the second half. The home side ultimately reclaimed the lead to record a victory.

Scoring for the Uruguay XV were Eugenio Plottier, Facundo Klappenbach and Santiago Martínez in the first half and Leandro Leivas and Fernando Bascou in the second. Scrum half Germán Albanell was the goal kicker.

The fixture was played at the world famous Montevideo Cricket Club (MVCC). The venue is the oldest rugby club in the world outside of Europe.
