Americas Players in Guinness Pro 12 – Week 7

It’s a good week for American followers of the Cardiff Blues. After leading the reserve side in the British & Irish Cup last weekend, Cam Dolan will get his first start of the Pro 12 season in Week 7, and his first ever run-out at his preferred no8 position. Also starting for the Blues is Blaine Scully, who switches from left to right wing this week. That means he won’t line up directly opposite DTH van der Merwe, who will play right wing for Scarlets at the Arms Park on Friday.

Three more Friday games are on the go, and each will have some connection to the Americas. US-eligible prop Callum Black starts for Ulster against Munster, newly-signed Argentine tighthead Felipe Arregui makes his first Pro 12 start for Edinburgh against Zebre, and a trio of interests are found on the Glasgow roster. Nashville native Tommy Seymour is on the right wing for Warriors against Benetton Treviso, while Djustice Sears-Duru is on the bench alongside Langi Haupeakui, who is set to make his Pro 12 debut as an impact reserve.

Saturday’s action won’t be as interesting with only Shane O’Leary a possible inclusion in the Connacht side to play Leinster at the RDS. There’s also a chance he could be bumped out of the match-day roster with the arrival of South African recruit Marnitz Boshoff during the week.
