Fry Joins Vannes in the Pro D2

USA Eagles prop Eric Fry has joined Vannes to play in the Pro D2. The 29-year-old Californian has made the move from Saint-Nazaire, a club playing in Fédérale 1.

Capped 40 times by the USA, Fry is a player of great interest to Vannes. The club has made a successful start to its first season in France’s second division though it has not come without concerns. The scrum has been an issue. It is hoped that Fry’s test and prior professional experience will improve the team in this area.

Fry has previous experience as a professional in a variety of competitions. In 2012 he played in New Zealand for the Manawatu Turbos. He then played for two years for London Scottish in England’s second division before moving to Newcastle for a further two years. This included time in the Aviva Premiership.  Earlier this year Fry played five games of PRO Rugby for the Sacramento Express before briefly playing for Saint-Nazaire.

Standing 1.93m (6’4″) and weighing 119kg (260lbs), Fry has the physique that Vannes is looking for. Fry will give Vannes five players from the Americas. He joins Canadian Conor Trainor and Argentine players Bautista Güemes, Martín García Veiga, Javier Lagioiosa, and Ramiro Pacheco.
