The Chance of a World 7’s ‘A’ Circuit

The chance of a World 7’s ‘A’ circuit is alive. In an recent interview World Rugby Vice Chairman, Agustin Pichot, confirmed the possibility.

World Rugby is seeking to increase international competition by opening the door to a development path. Set to gain from this are countries presently not involved, or rarely involved on the World 7’s Circuit.

The proposed model would enable those who miss out on being among the world’s top 12 who compete as the core teams. This is welcome news to countries from the Americas including Brazil, Cayman Islands, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Uruguay. Such unions have competed in Hong Kong qualifiers.

To take just one example, Uruguay has fluctuated in ranking. Overall it has tended to be between 17th and 20th. This has been too low for Los Teros 7’s to play with regularity. The potential gain would be monumental.
