Argentina Open to Moving More Home Games to Europe

Argentina is open to moving more home games to Europe, UAR President Carlos Araujó has confirmed. Following the successful match against Australia this past Saturday future matches are a real possibility.

While the match was a re-match of the Rugby World Cup 2015 Semi Final it was not the first relocated fixture from Argentina to England. The UAR moved a match from Buenos Aires to Manchester in 2009. The June international was the first of two, the second taking place in Salta.

Unlike in 2009 the UAR now has a full player roster to pay for. The costs of traveling to Oceania, South Africa, Japan and elsewhere will have been eased by the big crowd at Twickenham this past weekend.

Moving future home matches outside of Argentina are a possibility but not a priority. Should there be sufficient interest from a variety of Argentine provincial governments in 2017 then all home matches will certainly be played in the country.

In 2016 Buenos Aires, Salta, Santa Fé and Tucumán all hosted Pumas home test matches. Rosario and San Juan hosted Argentina XV matches in the Americas Rugby Championship. The 2017 edition will see the Argentina XV having three home matches. Bahía Blanca, Comodoro Rivadavia and Ushuaia are reported to be inline for matches.
