Leonardi signs for Leicester Tigers

Leicester Tigers have signed Argentinean back row Tomás Leonardi with immediate effect. The length of his contract has not been disclosed. He arrives as cover for injured forward Mike Williams, who has been ruled out for at least three months with a broken arm, and has been registered to take part in the European Champions Cup.

It will not be Leonardi’s first European experience. The 29-year-old spent two seasons with Edinburgh starting in 2013 and had a brief spell at Toulouse, though he did not appear in any matches for the French club. A winner of 18 test caps, Leonardi made his full international debut against Chile in November 2008. He last appeared for Los Pumas during the 2013 June test series, appearing as a replacement against both England and Georgia.

Leonardi joins former Pumas loosehead Marcos Ayerza at Leicester. The club has previously been the home of several Argentine international players, most recently Gonzalo Camacho, Pablo Matera, Horacio Agulla, and Lucas González Amorosino.
