Argentina to Officially Bid for Rugby World Cup 2027

Argentina is to officially bid to host Rugby World Cup 2027. Having earlier made the intention known the Mauricio Macri government presented their candidacy to World Rugby officials this past weekend.

Macri delivered the bid to World Rugby Chairman Bill Beaumont. Also present were Vice-chairman Agustín Pichot, CEO Brett Gosper and UAR President Carlos Araujo.

The meeting took place on Sunday following Argentina’s home defeat (36-17) against New Zealand in Buenos Aires.

Argentina has never hosted a Rugby World Cup. Japan will host the tournament in 2019. In doing so it will be the first time it has been staged outside of a Founding Union. Rugby World Cup 2023 will take place in one of France, Ireland or South Africa.
