Canada and Argentina have drawn Olympic champions Fiji in the opening round of the 2016-17 HSBC Sevens Series, to be held in Dubai starting on December 2. Bronze medallists South Africa are paired with the USA in Pool B. The highly anticipated new season looks to build on its increased visibility following the inclusion of rugby sevens in the Olympic Games.
Rounding out Pool A will be Wales, a constant thorn in the side of Canadian progress during the 2015-16 season. Pool B will include Scotland and a 16th team yet to be determined. Pool C features New Zealand, England, Samoa, and Russia. New core team Japan – 4th place finishers in Rio – will contest Pool D along with Australia, Kenya, and France.
