Americas Players in Pro D2 – Week 5

A host of players from the Americas are to play in France’s second division this weekend. The fifth round of the league will be played from today, Thursday, through until Sunday.

Week 5 of the French Pro D2 gets underway on Thursday evening with Mont de Marsan playing host to Agen at Stade Guy Boniface. Argentina, Canada, the USA and Uruguay are all to have players involved. Argentine Carlos Muzzio will play opposite the USA eligible Dave Ryan in the front-row. Agustín Ormaechea will play at scrum half for Mont de Marsan while Taylor Paris will join Ryan in starting for Agen.

The first of five Friday fixtures will be that of Oyonnax vs Carcassonne. Club captain Jamie Cudmore continued his recovery so will playno part for Oyonnax. Involved for the visitors will be Felipe Berchesi. The Uruguayan World Cup fly half will be on the bench for Carcassonne.

Towards the Swiss border Bourgoin will look to get their campaign back on track against Dax. After four rounds Bourgoin are off the pace in 12th position. A strong start for Dax has the club in 3rd. On the bench for Bourgoin this weekend will be Argentine Leandro Pérez Galeone. Dax will have an Argentine forward of their own with Martín Chiappesoni starting.

Competition leaders Aurillac will play at home against bottom of the table Narbonne. The fixture will involve Texan Christian Ostberg. The uncapped second-rower will be a replacement forward. With Hayden Smith having retired Ostberg’s international debut may well occur in November.

The 4th placed Charente will play host to the 9th placed Montauban on Friday evening. Charente’s Pro D2 baptism has been tremendously successful. Depite being up from the third division for the first time the club has adapted well to have proven itself to be competitive. Argentine hooker Bruno Mercanti will feature from the bench for the home side.

Additional Argentine front-rowers are to be involved in Biarritz vs Colomiers. The fixture will be Friday’s final fixture. Involved for Biarritz will be Leandro Mario Assi. He will start at tight-head prop. Starting for Colomiers at hooker will be Agustín Costa Repetto.

Week 5 will conclude on Sunday. Vannes will be at home to Perpignan. The former has started well wihle the latter needs to up their name if a return to the Top 14 is to be a possibility this season. Line-ups for this match will be announced on Saturday. Players from the Americas are expected to feature.
