South American B Championship Just Two Weeks Away

In just over two weeks time Colombia will take on Ecuador to open the South American B Championship. Being played in Lima, Peru Los Tucanes will be up against not only Ecuador but also Peru and Venezuela.

The second Tier competition of South American rugby will have a significant prize for the winner – a chance at qualifying for Rugby World Cup 2019. The winner will go on to face the champion of Rugby Americas North qualification which will be either Guyana or Mexico.

Next month’s South American B Championship will be played very close to the Pacific Ocean. The picturesque Complejo Deportivo Niño Héroe Manuel Bonilla in Miraflores will host all tournament matches.

In addition to Colombia vs Ecuador there will also be Peru vs Venezuela on October 02. The first of the two fixtures will kick-off at 2pm and the second at 4pm.

Round two will be played on Wednesday October 05 with the winner of game 1 facing the loser of game 2. It will immediately be followed by the winner of game 2 facing the loser of game 3. According to World Rankings Colombia (48) ought to face Peru (70) in game 2 and Venezuela (66) should be up against Ecuador (no ranking).

Not only does Colombia have a superior world ranking but the country also won the 2014 and 2015 tournaments. Last year Los Tucanes defeated Ecuador 77-13, Venezuela 33-5 and Peru 28-15 to finish undefeated.

While Colombia will be preparing to repeat this in October Mexico will be hosting Guyana. The Rugby Americas North Final be take place in Mexico City on October 01, one day before Colombia open against Ecuador in Lima.
