Ngwenya set to join Brive

Takudzwa Ngwenya will be returning to France, according to French media sources. The US Eagles rocket-man will join Brive in the Top 14 in the coming days, signing as a medical joker for former Australia 7s rep Alfi Mafi who has undergone shoulder surgery. Ngwenya enjoyed nine seasons with Biarritz – seven in the Top 14 – before departing for the San Diego Breakers in PRO Rugby earlier in the year.

At 31 years of age Ngwenya is nearing the latter stages of his professional career but remains a potent attacker, scoring nine tries in the Pro D2 last season and adding two with the Breakers in six games. His contract does not necessarily rule him out of the 2017 PRO Rugby season as it will expire when Mafi returns to the field, though that is unlikely to be until early in the new year. Ngwenya will be one of just two Eagles playing in the Top 14, the other Toulon’s Samu Manoa, with prospect Mose Fuala’au in Clermont’s senior academy.
