Hernández, Petti Ruled Out of Facing Australia

Argentina will be forced to make do without two starting players against Australia. Second-rower Guido Petti has joined Juan Martín Hernández in being declared unfit to face the Wallabies in Perth on Saturday.

Confirmation of Petti’s non-availability came from the UAR this morning on twitter. It reports that Hernández is expected to miss the next two test matches while Petti should be fine to play against New Zealand in Buenos Aires in round five.

Head Coach Daniel Hourcade has not called for any reinforcements. Instead he is to replace the injured duo from players already with the squad in Perth, Australia.

In there case of Hernández this means Santiago González Iglesias and Gabriel Ascárate are the options to replace him. González Iglesias has been a regular replacement for Hourcade in recent years while Ascárate’s career has been plagued by injuries.

For the second-row the loss of Petti is more complicated. He joins Tomás Lavanini and Juan Cruz Guillemaín on the sidelines. With it Matías Alemanno is the only fit second-rower from Super Rugby. Hourcade has Marcos Kremer with him with the 19-year-old now on the verge of a test start. Alternatively Hourcade may look to play Javier Ortega Desio in the second-row with Juan  Manuel Leguizamón returning to play flanker.
