Superb Cordero Try Gives Argentina Dream Start

Argentina winger Santiago Cordero gave Los Pumas the dream start against New Zealand. With just two minutes gone in Hamilton the Regatas winger went over for the opening points of the match.

The try was very much a team effort. Argentina targeted New Zealand through the middle. Having made a half break from fullback Joaquín Tuculet offloaded to Matías Orlando who attracted the only New Zealand defender before passing to an unmarked Cordero.

The score would be Argentina’s only try of the match. It was, nonetheless, an example of what the South Americans are capable of. Their inaugural win over New Zealand will have to wait for the time being but there is no question that Argentina is much closer now than has been the case previously in the professional era.
