Americas Players in RFU Championship – Week 1

The new Greene King IPA Championship gets underway this weekend with four games on Saturday and two more on Sunday. Eight players from the Americas will be taking part across the two days.

Newly-promoted Richmond will kick off the season at home against Jersey Reds. Canadian lock Tyler Hotson – who recently announced his retirement from international consideration – will start in the second row, with US Eagles cap Ronnie McLean at inside centre. Neither of the clubs Argentinean players nor Canadian-eligible hooker Richard Townsend will suit up.

Justin Blanchet and Bedford Blues host Cornish Pirates at Goldington Road. Blanchet starts on the blindside, while three Americas players line up for Pirates. Canadians Brett Beukeboom and Matt Evans are at lock and left wing respectively, while Argentinean Nicolás de Battista makes his competitive debut wearing no12.

Pumas international loosehead prop Ignacio Sáenz Lancuba runs out for his new club Ealing against Yorkshire Carnegie. London Irish have named their team to play Doncaster but disappointingly for Canadian fans both Jebb Sinclair and Ciaran Hearn have been left out. Aaron Carpenter will play for London Welsh against Rotherham Titans on Sunday albeit as a back row replacement.
