Americas Players in Pro D2 – Week 2

Week 2 of France’s second division will see eight matches played between today and Sunday. This season continues with Americas players to play an important role in the Pro D2. Argentina, Canada, Uruguay and USA will all be represented.

Getting Week 2 underway will be Aurillac and Perpignan. The fixture sees two teams to have been contenders for promotion in recent years. The two clubs both also have players from the Americas. Their match-up in central France today will involve USA second row Christian Ostberg. He will play from the bench for the home side.

In Friday’s opening match Narbonne will welcome Bourgoin. The fixture will include Argentine Leandro Pérez Galeone. He has been named in Bourgoin’s starting line up and will play at flanker.

Across in Colomiers Agustín Costa Repetto will start at hooker. He will play for the home side who welcome Carcassonne. Starting at flyhalf for Carcassonne will be Felipe Berchesi who missed out on starting in week 1.

The two teams promoted from the Fédérale 1 – Charente and Vannes – will meet on Friday. Argentine hookers Bruno Mercanti and Martín García Veiga will both look to come on in the second half. Also named as a replacement is Bautista Güemes for Vannes. Canadian Conor Trainor will start for the visitors.

Former Belgrano Athletic prop Leandro Assi is to feature for Biarritz. He has been named as a replacement prop for the club’s trip to Montauban. Both clubs dream of a return to the Top 14. With long seasons to manage endurance will be required to not overuse members of the respective rosters.

Two further former Top 14 teams will compete in the final fixture on Friday. Starting for Mont-de-Marsan will be Uruguayan Agustín Ormaechea at scrumhalf. Argentine Carlos Muzzio will provide support as a replacement prop. Dax will look to win away with Ignacio Mieres pulling the strings at flyhalf. His compatriot Martín Chiappesoni will start at flanker.

Completing week 2 will be Agen against Albi on Sunday. Taylor Paris is set to return for Agen for the first time since the 2014-15 season after being named in the match day squad. The starting roster is due to be named on Saturday.
