Pumitas Overpower Teritos in Montevideo

Argentina’s outstanding week continues. Following on from Los Pumas defeating Argentina in Salta the u20’s, Los Pumitas, have now won away against Uruguay. Argentina’s u20 side came out 80-12 winners over Los Teritos in Montevideo to win the Sudamérica Rugby Cup.

The under 20 battle of Rio de la Plata gave the two participants different outcomes. For Argentina it underlined the growing base of talented youngsters, some of whom may be playing Super Rugby in 2017. For Uruguay, on the other hand, it highlighted the need for improvements at the junior level.

The first of Los Pumitas’ twelve tries came in the opening minute. Flanker Benjamín Bonasso crossed for his first of three tries as Uruguay were sent an early warning. Los Teritos, though, answered straight back through Manuel Ardao. With both tries being unconverted the scores were 5-5 after as many minutes.

Uruguay would not score again until the 52nd minute. By the time Santiago Civetta crossed for Uruguay’s second, and final, try Argentina had already amassed 59 points. These included a total of six first half tries and three sin the opening nine minutes of the second half.

The flood of tries was not over. Instead three tries in the final quarter saw Los Pumitas finishing with 80 points. The final try scored was by fullback Bautista Delguy. The 19 year old Pucará flier is one to keep an eye on for the future.
